PITTSBURGH, PA — Downtown Public Safety Center officers have arrested a 16-year-old charged as an adult in connection with an armed robbery and assault that occurred near Point State Park on Sunday night, authorities announced.
Officers were dispatched just before 8:15 p.m. on October 25 to 600 Commonwealth Place to take a robbery report from a 20-year-old male. The victim told police he was walking through Point State Park with his girlfriend when three or four young males wearing masks approached them. One suspect produced a firearm and demanded the victim’s hooded sweatshirt, which the victim relinquished.
The actor then struck the victim in the head with the firearm, causing him to fall to the ground where his shoes and necklace were also stolen. Emergency medical services personnel evaluated the victim at the scene for a head laceration, and he was not transported to a hospital.
Downtown Public Safety Center officers detained three juveniles a short time later and transported them to the downtown police station for questioning. Javal West-Gray, 16, was arrested and charged as an adult under Act 33. Charges include robbery, aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and theft by unlawful taking.
West-Gray was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. The other two juveniles were cited for summary harassment and released to the custody of their guardians. Investigators seized the firearm and submitted it to the county crime lab for testing.
