Pittsburgh Partners with Community Groups to Bring 26 Affordable Homes to Larimer

PITTSBURGH, PA — Mayor Corey O’Connor joined representatives from the Larimer Consensus Group, East Liberty Development, Inc., and the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh on Thursday to announce that 26 new affordable homes are coming to the Larimer community through the Mayflower Street Affordable Homeownership Program.

The initiative builds on a partnership established in June 2026 to expand homeownership opportunities and invest in Larimer through community-driven housing development. City officials noted that the project is designed to help families put down roots and build generational wealth in the neighborhood.

Mayor O’Connor praised the collaboration among community leaders and public agencies, emphasizing the importance of listening to residents when planning neighborhood revitalization. City leaders underscored that the objective is to create sustainable opportunities for homeownership, strengthen local neighborhoods, and ensure municipal investments deliver lasting benefits for local residents.

The Mayflower Street program continues broader revitalization efforts that began over a decade ago following a $30 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2014. While initial investments focused primarily on quality rental housing, the current phase expands the focus toward sustainable homeownership.

Several homes have already been completed, with additional units under construction. All 26 residences are scheduled for completion over the next two years. The development is supported by public, private, and philanthropic funding, including $3.3 million from the Urban Redevelopment Authority, $1.8 million in Federal Home Loan Bank grants, $625,000 in PHARE funds, $350,000 in state CEAP grants, and approximately $5.5 million in prospective mortgage financing.
