PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh’s CitiSports program and the Pittsburgh Pirates are holding the annual Nike RBI Mayor’s Cup championships at PNC Park, giving youth baseball and softball finalists the opportunity to play on the Pirates’ home field.
The championship schedule began Thursday, July 30, and continues Monday, August 3, and Tuesday, August 4. City officials said this is the first year the event has been expanded from two days to three so finalists from every RBI division can play at the ballpark.
Thursday’s slate includes four boys’ championship games, while Monday features five girls’ slow-pitch and fast-pitch matchups. Six additional boys’ division finals are scheduled for Tuesday.
The games are free for families and the public. Free parking is available in Red Lots 7A and 7C, according to the City. Officials cautioned that games may begin as much as one hour before their listed start times depending on when the preceding awards ceremony ends.
Mayor Corey O’Connor said the event recognizes the work young athletes have put in throughout the season. Parks and Recreation Director Eric Sloan said the partnership with the Pirates gives players a chance to compete on one of baseball’s most recognizable fields.
