PITTSBURGH, PA — The Panther Hollow Bridge in Schenley Park will reopen to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians by 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, after the city completed repairs and a post-construction inspection.
The City of Pittsburgh closed the more than 130-year-old bridge in October 2024 after inspectors identified concerns. Construction began in January and included strengthening truss connections at 52 locations, repairing steel stringers at seven locations, maintaining truss bearings, repointing masonry, improving downspouts and expansion joints, repairing curbs and sidewalks, and adding a protective coating over the roadway.
Mayor Corey O’Connor said thousands of residents and visitors rely on the bridge each day. Before its closure, the crossing carried an average of 5,359 vehicles daily as well as hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists, according to the city.
The work was funded locally. Mosites Construction completed construction, Michael Baker International handled engineering, and CDR Maguire performed construction inspection.
