PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found fatally shot early Wednesday in Bedford Dwellings.
Zone 2 officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Chauncey Drive at about 2:55 a.m. on Aug. 19 following reports that a woman had been shot, according to a City of Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter release.
Responding officers found the woman on the ground just inside the doorway of an apartment. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police said a male fled the area on foot. The city release did not identify the woman or announce an arrest.
Crime Scene Unit detectives recovered five to six shell casings, according to police. The Violent Crime Unit is handling the investigation.
