PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh police arrested a 19-year-old man after a reported robbery and a series of assaults in Downtown Pittsburgh on Friday morning.
According to the city’s Public Safety Blotter, Downtown Public Safety Center officers were flagged down shortly before 8:30 a.m. on August 21 outside a business near Penn Avenue and Sixth Street. Police said a man took cash from one woman’s hands, punched two women who confronted him, pulled one victim to the ground and dragged her before fleeing on a bus.
Officers were later called to Katz Plaza, where police said the same man struck another person in the face and tried to take a woman’s bag while running away.
Police located the suspect near Ninth Street and Penn Avenue and took him into custody after victims identified him. The city said the victims declined medical attention.
The suspect was charged with robbery, three counts of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and prohibited acts. Police said he also faces multiple theft counts connected to tip jars reported stolen from Downtown businesses in recent weeks. He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. Charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
