PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh public safety officials are investigating an assault and reported phone theft at Gateway Center in the Central Business District that sent a woman to a hospital Wednesday evening.
Pittsburgh Police said Downtown Public Safety Center officers, Pittsburgh EMS and Pittsburgh Fire were dispatched at approximately 6 p.m. to the intersection of Stanwix Street and Liberty Avenue after receiving reports of an assault.
Responders found an adult woman who told officers that two adult women had assaulted her and stolen her phone. Police said the victim suffered a laceration to her forehead. She was conscious, alert and speaking with officers and medics before Pittsburgh EMS transported her to an area hospital in serious but stable condition.
The two people sought in connection with the incident fled on foot and were last reported heading along Liberty Avenue toward Sixth Street, according to the city’s account.
Detectives continue to investigate. Officials had not announced arrests in the release. Anyone with information can contact Pittsburgh Police through the city’s public safety channels.
