PITTSBURGH, PA — A boat caught fire and sank in the Allegheny River early Wednesday between the Andy Warhol and Rachel Carson bridges, according to the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety.
Pittsburgh River Rescue, the Bureau of Fire, the Fire Boat and the Fire Investigation Unit responded shortly before 1 a.m. Crews found the boat fully engulfed and extinguished the fire by about 1:15 a.m., the city said.
The boat later sank. River Rescue searched the area but did not locate anyone aboard the vessel or in the nearby water.
Investigators at the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Real Time Crime Center identified video showing an individual boarding the boat and leaving the area shortly before the fire, according to the city. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission was notified.
Officials asked anyone with information to contact the Fire Investigation Unit at 412-782-7646.
