Pittsburgh Expands Electric Vehicle Charging Network Across Key Corridors

PITTSBURGH, PA — City officials this week announced plans to expand Pittsburgh’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network, aiming to support growing demand and encourage the adoption of cleaner transportation options.

The initiative will install new charging stations along major travel corridors, in public parking facilities, and within residential neighborhoods where access to charging has been limited. Officials say the expansion is part of a broader effort to modernize infrastructure and reduce transportation-related emissions.

According to planners, the project will include a mix of fast-charging and standard charging stations, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of users. Partnerships with private companies and utility providers are expected to help accelerate deployment and reduce costs.

Local leaders emphasized that expanding EV infrastructure is key to supporting environmental goals while providing residents with convenient and reliable charging options. The program will also include educational outreach to help drivers transition to electric vehicles.

Installation of the first phase of new charging stations is expected to begin later this year, with additional sites planned as demand continues to grow.
