PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh detectives are investigating after a 17-year-old male was fatally shot overnight in Downtown, according to a June 14 public safety update from the City of Pittsburgh.
Police said Zone 2 officers were called to Penn Avenue at 7th Street at approximately 12:15 a.m. for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the teen unconscious on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Pittsburgh EMS transported the victim to an area hospital in critical condition. The city said he was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
An individual was detained and taken to Police Headquarters for questioning, but police said there had been no arrests at the time of the city’s update. The Mobile Crime Unit responded to process evidence at the scene, including a review of available camera footage.
The city said Violent Crime Unit detectives are continuing the investigation. Officials listed Emily Bourne as the contact for the release and categorized the update under public safety.
