Pittsburgh Public Safety Crews Respond to Fatal Fall at Obama Academy

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh public safety crews responded Monday morning after a woman fell from construction scaffolding at Obama Academy on North Highland Avenue, according to a city Public Safety Blotter release.

The city said Pittsburgh EMS, Pittsburgh Fire and Zone 5 police were called just before 9 a.m. to the 500 block of North Highland Avenue for reports that a woman had been injured during work at the school.

According to the release, construction workers were in the school’s pool area, where scaffolding had been erected inside the empty pool while work was underway. Responders found the adult woman at the bottom of the empty pool after an estimated fall of about 30 feet.

Public safety officials said the woman suffered traumatic head injuries consistent with a fall from that height. Pittsburgh EMS transported her in grave condition, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arrival.

The city said the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity. Violent Crime Unit detectives were called to the scene as part of routine procedure.
