PITTSBURGH, PA — The City of Pittsburgh has extended the operating hours of four Healthy Active Living (HAL) Senior Centers as designated cooling centers through Sunday, July 5, 2026, to provide residents with relief from the ongoing extreme heat wave.
The cooling centers are open to all community members seeking air-conditioned spaces during the hottest parts of the day. The facilities will operate from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with some scheduling modifications for the Independence Day holiday.
Cooling Center Locations and Holiday Schedule:
- Greenfield HAL Center: 745 Greenfield Avenue (Open Friday through Sunday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
- Homewood HAL Center: 7321 Frankstown Avenue (Open Friday through Sunday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
- South Side HAL Center: 12th & Bingham Streets (Open Friday through Sunday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
- Sheraden HAL Center: 720 Sherwood Avenue (Open Friday and Sunday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM; Closed Saturday, July 4)
City officials advise residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check on elderly neighbors. Anyone needing assistance or information on additional heat relief resources can contact the city’s response line or visit the municipal portal.
