PITTSBURGH, PA — The City of Pittsburgh has opened applications for the return of its Civic Leadership Academy, a free 10-week program designed to give residents a closer look at how city government works.
The program will meet Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. from September through December. Participants will attend presentations, discussions and site visits with leaders from city departments, authorities and bureaus.
The city said the curriculum will cover offices and services including the Mayor’s Office, City Council, 311, public safety, city planning, finance, public works, parks and recreation, mobility and infrastructure, housing, Pittsburgh Water and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
Mayor Corey O’Connor said the academy is intended to deepen residents’ understanding of local government, improve transparency and help participants serve as ambassadors for their neighborhoods.
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Applicants must live in Pittsburgh or operate a business or nonprofit, or perform community-impact work, within city limits. Program and application details are available in the City of Pittsburgh announcement.
