Pittsburgh to Host Free ‘Outdoors for All’ Event at Allegheny Commons

PITTSBURGH, PA — A free statewide outdoor recreation event will bring more than 25 conservation, community and environmental partners to Allegheny Commons Park on Saturday, Aug. 15.

The third annual Outdoors for All event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. near Lake Elizabeth. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is hosting the event with the City of Pittsburgh, the Outdoor Inclusion Coalition and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy.

Organizers said activities will include kayaking, mountain biking, birding walks, face painting and educational opportunities offered by participating organizations. The event is the final celebration in this summer’s statewide Outdoors for All series and will also close the inaugural season of the First Try Collective, a free program introducing Greater Pittsburgh residents to outdoor activities.

This year’s theme emphasizes water access and expanded opportunities for water recreation. Mayor Corey O’Connor said Pittsburgh’s rivers, parks, trails and green spaces provide many ways for families, residents and visitors to connect with the outdoors.

The event will be held rain or shine, although activities may change because of weather or safety conditions. Organizers encourage carpooling, biking or public transportation because parking is limited to nearby street spaces.
