PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh police are investigating a shooting in Northview Heights that left two adults dead Wednesday morning, according to a city Public Safety report.
Zone 1 officers were dispatched shortly after 9 a.m. to the 100 block of Hazlett Street after a two-round ShotSpotter alert. While officers were on the way, dispatchers received additional calls reporting gunfire and possible victims in the area.
Police said officers found an adult woman and an adult man on the second floor of a residence. Both had suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
Four children were inside the home at the time, but none was injured. Authorities reported no other injuries.
The Mobile Crime Unit and Violent Crime Unit responded to process evidence, including shell casings recovered at the scene. The initial investigation indicates the shooting was domestic in nature, but police said the exact circumstances remain under active investigation and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner will identify the two people who died and determine the cause and manner of their deaths.
