PITTSBURGH, PA — The City of Pittsburgh has ordered 13 new fire trucks for the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, using support from a five-year public-safety partnership with Highmark Health.
The order includes eight custom engine and pumper trucks and five custom ladder and aerial trucks. Mayor Corey O’Connor said the purchase is intended to provide firefighters with more reliable vehicles and equipment as they respond to emergencies across the city.
Highmark Health committed $4 million annually over five years for vehicles, equipment and other resources used by first responders who provide emergency medical care. That commitment is part of a $20 million partnership for capital investments in Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Safety announced earlier this year.
Acting Fire Chief Mat Davis said the new engines and ladder trucks will improve firefighters’ ability to respond quickly and safely. Pittsburgh Fire Fighters IAFF Local No. 1 President Ralph Sicuro said the investment will help address maintenance challenges and limited reserve capacity in the bureau’s aging fleet.
The city’s Equipment Leasing Authority authorized the order. A delivery timeline has not yet been determined.
