PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh is inviting local artists to create the city’s official America 250 poster, with six awards totaling $10,000, Mayor Corey O’Connor announced.
The Pittsburgh America 250 City Art Poster Project asks artists to interpret the city’s role in the American story and imagine its next 250 years. Entries may focus on Pittsburgh’s people, neighborhoods, history, landscape, industry, innovation, arts, culture, traditions or resilience, according to the city.
The winning artist will receive $5,000, and the selected work will become Pittsburgh’s official America 250 City Art Poster for a national project organized by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. Five finalists will each receive $1,000.
Individuals who live in Pittsburgh and organizations located within the city may enter. Individual and collaborative submissions are permitted, and the city said artists should not feel limited to familiar landmarks or symbols. The competition accepts a broad range of original, human-created visual art; AI-generated imagery is not eligible.
Submissions opened Sept. 16 and close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. Full eligibility rules, artwork specifications and the submission form are available through the city’s project page.
