PITTSBURGH, PA — The City of Pittsburgh has been selected as one of the first fifteen municipalities nationwide to participate in a new national housing initiative supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies to modernize and accelerate local building permit systems.
Mayor Corey O’Connor announced that Pittsburgh will receive between $450,000 and $750,000 in dedicated funding alongside specialized operational guidance from Accelerator for America. The assistance will support the deployment of advanced permitting technologies designed to speed up application reviews, expand available housing inventory, and facilitate neighborhood growth.
Pittsburgh will adapt proven municipal permitting strategies pioneered in San Diego, where local officials established expedited review timelines through comprehensive digital workflow modernization. The initiative enables municipal leaders across thirty participating cities to share technical approaches and track tangible progress in expanding housing stock.
