PITTSBURGH, PA — Mayor Corey O’Connor, City Councilperson Bob Charland, and CitiParks Director Eric Sloan joined neighborhood families and youth sports partners to open a new soccer mini-pitch at Ormsby Park on the South Side.
The new recreational facility was donated by the U.S. Soccer Foundation and Philadelphia Soccer 2026 as part of their partnership with Pittsburgh on FIFA World Cup 2026 community programming. The $100,000 capital installation replaces an outdated dek hockey rink at Ormsby Park with an all-weather interlocking tile playing surface, regulation soccer goals, and dedicated lighting for evening activities.
In addition to the facility donation, the City of Pittsburgh secured a $52,000 Soccer for Success grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation. The funding will support CitiSports in delivering structured youth soccer clinics, coaching, and recreational programs at the park. Municipal officials highlighted the project alongside a companion mini-pitch at Pittsburgh Public Schools Sunnyside as part of continuing citywide investments in neighborhood athletic spaces.
