Pittsburgh Sets Citywide Fall Yard Debris Collection for Saturday, November 7

PITTSBURGH, PA — The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works Environmental Services division will conduct its citywide fall yard debris collection on Saturday, November 7, 2026, encouraging residents to place organic materials curbside to divert compostable resources from regional landfills.

Residents must place acceptable yard debris at their regular trash or recycling pickup location before 6:00 a.m. on the morning of collection. Materials must be placed in brown paper bags weighing no more than 35 pounds each. Branches must measure 5 feet or less in length and under 4 inches in diameter, bundled securely with natural fiber twine or rope. City officials noted that debris not conforming to these specifications will not be collected.

Eligible materials accepted during the event include leaves, brush, grass, branches meeting sizing limits, and pumpkins. Items excluded from collection include plastic bags, metal or wire, rocks, bricks, ceramics, gravel, glass, and household trash. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, compostable material accounts for an estimated 40 percent of landfill volume, and the city’s biannual collections aim to recover those nutrients for local use.

Organic debris collected throughout the city will be processed into local compost to nourish landscaping across CitiParks properties and public spaces. Residents who miss the Saturday collection may take yard waste to three designated public works division drop-off centers: the 3rd Division in Hazelwood at 40 Melanchton Street, the 5th Division in the West End at 1330 Hassler Street, and the 2nd Division in Homewood North at 6814 Hamilton Avenue.
