Pittsburgh and URA Prepare Larimer Lots for New Housing Proposals

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh officials and the Urban Redevelopment Authority are preparing to invite builders to propose new housing on vacant public lots in Larimer, opening another step in the city’s effort to turn unused land into neighborhood investment.

The O’Connor Administration and the URA announced that a Request for Interest will be released June 22 for several City- and URA-owned lots scattered across the neighborhood. The city said proposals will be due by August 24.

The opportunity is aimed at builders interested in new, high-quality housing or mixed-use residential construction. According to the city, many of the vacant parcels once held homes, giving the neighborhood a chance to restore residential use while working with community priorities.

Larimer has been a focus of long-running redevelopment and neighborhood planning work, and the new RFI is designed to test builder interest before any specific projects move forward. The process gives public agencies a way to compare concepts for sites that are currently idle but could support new homes.

Officials said the RFI will be posted through the URA’s proposals and bids website. For residents, the next marker is the June 22 release date, when the public will be able to see the lots included and the type of responses the city is seeking.
