PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh officials are relaunching the city’s police co-response program, pairing Pittsburgh Police with community social workers for responses to 911 calls, according to a City of Pittsburgh public safety announcement.
The city described the move as a recommitment to police co-response, with plans to expand coverage citywide. The announcement was made through the Department of Public Safety and tagged by the city as a public safety update.
Mayor Corey O’Connor, Public Safety Director Sheldon Williams, Police Chief Jason Lando and members of the Office of Community Health and Safety were listed by the city as participants in the announcement.
The announcement was scheduled for noon Wednesday, June 17, at the Pittsburgh Police Downtown Public Safety Center, located at 439 Wood Street.
City officials said the effort centers on Pittsburgh Police and community social workers partnering to respond to 911 calls, a model intended to connect public safety response with social-service support as the city works toward broader coverage.
