PITTSBURGH, PA — The City of Pittsburgh has reactivated its joint Fireworks Task Force for the holiday weekend, working to enforce local ordinances and ensure community safety from July 3 through July 5, 2026.
The task force is comprised of officers from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and inspectors from the Bureau of Fire. Teams will patrol neighborhood streets and respond to complaints regarding the illegal use, misuse, or hazardous discharge of consumer pyrotechnics. Violations can result in warnings, confiscation of fireworks, citations, or arrest.
Key Fireworks Regulations and Restrictions in the City:
- Distance Limit: It is illegal to ignite or discharge consumer fireworks within 150 feet of any building or vehicle, regardless of property ownership.
- Location Restrictions: Fireworks are strictly prohibited in all city parks, ballfields, and on any other city-owned property. Sky lanterns are also illegal.
- Property Permission: Fireworks may not be discharged on private property without the express permission of the property owner.
- Prohibited Conduct: Fireworks cannot be thrown or discharged in the direction of another person, or operated by anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Public safety officials urge residents to be considerate of neighbors, pets, and individuals with sensory sensitivities. Complaints regarding illegal fireworks can be reported to local authorities for response by the active task force.
