PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh police say a man wanted in connection with an alleged rape on the South Side was arrested Thursday in Staten Island, New York.
The city’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit and Special Victims Unit worked with the New York Police Department’s Staten Island Warrant Squad to locate 37-year-old Larry Pappy Johnson, according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety release. Officials said he was taken into custody without incident.
Police said Johnson is accused in an Aug. 8 attack on a woman in a parking lot on South 14th Street. He faces charges including rape, sexual assault, robbery, false imprisonment, indecent assault, indecent exposure and harassment. The charges are allegations, and Johnson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Officials said the process of returning Johnson to Pittsburgh will move forward after unrelated local warrants in New York are cleared. Pittsburgh police also credited the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force and other partner agencies for assisting in the case.
