Pittsburgh Opens 16 Outdoor Pools as Summer Guide Rolls Out

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh opened 16 outdoor pools across the city Monday as CitiParks released its annual Summer Guide, giving families a new list of free and low-cost recreation options for the season.

The city said the outdoor pools now open include Ammon, Banksville, Bloomfield, Highland, Jack Stack, Magee, McBride, Moore, Ormsby, Phillips, Ream, Riverview, Schenley, Sue Murray, West Penn and Westwood. The Homewood pool is expected to open in the next couple of weeks after update and renovation work is completed.

Pool schedules will be posted through the city’s pools website. Pittsburgh residents age 15 and under can use city pools for free, while older swimmers can pay per visit or buy a season pass tag at an open pool location. The Oliver Bath House indoor pool is also keeping limited summer hours from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

CitiParks is also bringing back free learn-to-swim camps at city pools later this month, with registration information available at each pool. The department said its Summer Guide includes schedules for recreation centers, senior programs, sports, food programs, movies, concerts and other neighborhood activities.

The summer rollout also includes the start of free CitiCamp, a STEAM-based day camp for children ages 4 to 12. The city said 238 campers began Monday at six recreation centers, with the program running daily through July 31.

Music programming is part of the guide as well. CitiParks and Pittsburgh Brewing Company plan a Community Pop-Up Concert Series with three Friday evening shows at Mellon Park in July and a Sunday finale at Allegheny Commons Park West in September.
