PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh’s Department of Parks and Recreation is marking Juneteenth and African American heritage with city-hosted events running across the city from June 15 through June 27.
The remaining schedule includes a George B. Vashon Historical Marker Ceremony on June 26 at Market Street at Third Avenue at 1 p.m., followed by a WAMO 107.3 co-hosted finale celebration on Saturday, June 27, at Highland Park from noon to 4 p.m.
City officials said the Juneteenth series includes celebrations, activities and family programming, with a broader schedule that has featured Dollar Bank Cinema in the Park, a Family Roller Skate event, farmers markets and other community gatherings.
The Highland Park finale is scheduled to include entertainment, vendors and activities for all ages. The city said the event will feature performances from WAMO’s Future Flava artists Lia, Harlan Tobe Jr. and Harley Dyse, along with family-friendly activities from House of Waxx, Living Treasures Wild Animal Park and Cheat Code Gaming Truck.
WAMO has hosted Pittsburgh Juneteenth celebrations for more than 30 years, beginning with its first organized event in 1993. Michael Spacciapolli, regional vice president of Audacy, said WAMO has played a vital role in elevating and celebrating Juneteenth in Pittsburgh, while recognizing WAMO 107.3 on-air host Ki Ki B. Jones for her community impact.
