CitiParks Offers Free Youth Swim Lessons at Pittsburgh Pools Starting June 29

PITTSBURGH, PA — CitiParks is offering free Learn to Swim lessons for youth ages 6 to 15 at neighborhood pools across the city as summer begins, according to a June 24 announcement from the City of Pittsburgh.

The two-week program will run daily Monday through Friday from June 29 through July 10 at all city pools. Most classes are scheduled for 11 to 11:45 a.m., with Highland Pool holding classes from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and Schenley Pool from noon to 12:45 p.m.

City officials said the program teaches basic swimming skills, water safety knowledge and important water safety practices. Learn to Swim is not currently scheduled at Homewood Pool, but the city said it will be offered there after the pool reopens.

Mayor Corey O’Connor said the city is excited to bring back the free program for local children and said learning to swim can help build confidence so families can enjoy pools together during the summer. CitiParks Director Eric Sloan said the program helps young swimmers develop important water safety skills and encourages families to register while space remains available.

Parents or guardians can register children in person at their local neighborhood pool with a valid ID to verify city residency. The city said the program is free for families, participants do not need annual pool tags to enroll, and more information is available from the CitiParks Aquatics Office at 412-323-7928 or aquatics@pittsburghpa.gov.
