City Announces Closures and Safety Plans for Point State Park Concert

PITTSBURGH, PA — City officials and America250PA have released transportation, parking and public-safety plans for the Commonwealth Concert Series stop at Point State Park, where a free, ticketed event is scheduled for Saturday, June 27.

The Pittsburgh stop is being coordinated with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, PennDOT and Pennsylvania State Police. The lineup announced by organizers includes Nelly, Third Eye Blind and special guest Frzy, with former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch set to host the evening.

Point State Park, at 601 Commonwealth Place, will be fully closed to the public from 9 p.m. Friday, June 26, through 5 p.m. Saturday, June 27, including the riverwalks, fountain area and pedestrian-bridge access. Main gates are scheduled to open to ticket holders at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Road restrictions around the park began Wednesday with parking-lane closures on Commonwealth Place between Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Liberty Avenue. A full closure of Commonwealth Place between Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Liberty Avenue is scheduled to begin Thursday at 7 a.m., followed Friday by additional parking-lane closures on Boulevard of the Allies and Liberty Avenue and a Friday evening closure of Liberty Avenue outbound from Stanwix Street to the Fort Pitt Bridge.

On event day, previously announced restrictions will remain in place, and additional Saturday morning closures include Liberty Avenue inbound from the Fort Pitt Bridge to Stanwix Street and Commonwealth Place between Boulevard of the Allies and Liberty Avenue. City officials said phased reopenings are planned Sunday, with remaining Commonwealth Place parking-lane and full-road closures expected to reopen by 5 p.m. Monday, June 29.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and use public transit, rideshare, biking, carpooling or Downtown garages because heavy traffic is expected. Pittsburgh Regional Transit service into Downtown and the Gateway Center area is recommended, and dedicated rideshare pickup and drop-off zones will be established.

Officials said ADA accommodations and ASL interpretation will be provided, and guests who need specific accommodations should email Concerts@America250PA.org in advance. The City of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania State Police, along with DCNR Rangers, Pennsylvania Game Commission wardens and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat waterways conservation officers, will provide law enforcement support, traffic control and emergency medical services while attendees undergo security screening and follow posted venue policies.
