PITTSBURGH, PA — The City of Pittsburgh has opened applications for a new round of Youth Climate Action Fund microgrants, offering awards of $1,000 to $5,000 for projects led by young people ages 15 to 24.
Eligible proposals must be meaningfully led by at least two young people and address a climate challenge or opportunity affecting Pittsburgh communities. The city said potential projects include tree planting, community gardens, composting and waste reduction, stormwater improvements, climate education, neighborhood data collection, and biking or transportation initiatives.
Applications must be submitted through an eligible sponsoring organization, such as a school, college, university, nonprofit, community organization, or another legally recognized public or nonprofit entity. Sponsors will manage grant funds and reporting, while participating young people remain responsible for project planning, decisions, and implementation.
The deadline is October 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Selected projects are expected to receive awards in November, with activities and spending completed by April 15, 2027.
The city will also hold a public Youth Climate Action Design and Innovation Session from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, at 412 Boulevard of the Allies. The session is intended to help prospective teams explore project ideas and connect with potential sponsoring organizations.
