Pittsburgh Expands Digital Literacy Initiative to Bridge Technology Gaps

PITTSBURGH, PA — City officials this week announced an expansion of a digital literacy initiative aimed at bridging technology gaps and improving access to essential digital skills across Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

The program will focus on providing training in basic computer use, internet navigation, and online safety for residents of all ages. Officials say the effort is designed to empower individuals with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital world.

According to program leaders, the initiative will include free workshops at community centers, expanded access to devices, and partnerships with local schools and nonprofits to reach underserved populations. Specialized courses will also be offered for job seekers and seniors.

Education experts noted that improving digital literacy can open doors to employment opportunities, enhance access to services, and promote greater civic participation. The initiative is expected to help close the digital divide while supporting long-term economic and social growth.

The first phase of the expanded program is scheduled to begin later this year, with additional resources and training sessions planned as community interest and funding continue to grow.
