PITTSBURGH, PA — City officials this week announced an expansion of digital literacy programs aimed at bridging the technology gap and improving access to essential digital skills across Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
The initiative will focus on providing free training courses in basic computer use, internet navigation, and online safety. Officials say the effort is designed to help residents better access education, employment opportunities, and critical online services.
According to program coordinators, the expansion will include partnerships with libraries, schools, and community centers to host workshops and provide hands-on learning experiences. The initiative will also distribute devices and offer low-cost internet options to qualifying households.
Education advocates noted that improving digital literacy can empower individuals, support workforce readiness, and reduce inequality in access to information. The program is expected to benefit students, seniors, and job seekers throughout the city.
The first phase of the expanded initiative is scheduled to begin later this year, with additional resources planned as community participation and funding continue to grow.
